Inspiration
I looked forward to every single road trip my family and I took around the island of Jamaica. In less than a decade, I had stored in my memory every turn, every landmark, every fruit stand, as well as the people along each route. If I knew the destination, I immediately visualized our drive from when we left our house until arriving at our final stop. One of my favourite destinations was going to the coast of Portland Parish. As I knew we would be going through Blue Mountains and driving through the parade square of Newcastle, the JDF base on border of St. Andrew and Portland. If we were lucky, we would see the Jamaican army in the middle of a march while we rolled through the square, or the mountain mist would completely engulf the area and it would feel like we were driving on the clouds. It is the mountain mist I anticipated the most; enveloping the rows on rows of this mountain’s famed coffee bushes.
