Bentonite clay is formed through a geological process spanning millions of years. It begins with volcanic eruptions, where ash and tuff are released into the environment. Over time, these volcanic materials undergo a transformation through contact with water and weathering. The volcanic glass within the ash gradually breaks down and recrystallizes into a mineral called smectite, the primary component of bentonite clay. This process involves the alteration of the silica-rich volcanic material in the presence of water, leading to the formation of a soft, porous rock. Once formed, bentonite deposits are typically mined through open-pit or underground methods. The extracted clay often contains impurities and excess moisture, requiring further processing. This involves drying, crushing, and purification steps to remove unwanted materials. Its exceptional ability to absorb excess oil and impurities makes it an effective cleanser for oily and acne-prone skin. The clay's negative charge attracts positively charged toxins and impurities, drawing them out from the pores. This deep cleansing action helps reduce the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads. Additionally, bentonite clay has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. It can also help tighten pores and improve skin tone.
